Tour 3 “Tashkent as the Capital of the
Independent Uzbekistan”
The purpose of this tour is to acquaint
the participants with the different phases of development of independent Uzbekistan.
The tour will familiarize participants with the historical past, present and
future of the capital city of Tashkent.

State Museum of History of
Temurids was
established in Tashkent
in 1996 on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov. The
museum was placed in the centre of Tashkent
for the 660th anniversary of Amir Temur, and has an unusual ribbed dome. The
exhibition houses archaeological, ethnographic and numismatic items,
armaments and armor of warriors, as well as objects that appeared in the
state of Amir Temur by way of the
Great Silk Road. 1,700 exhibits are preserved in the museum reflecting the
history of Uzbekistan
over 15 centuries. |

“The Independence” square. At the center there is a Monument
to Independence and Humanism on the top of
which is a bronze sphere depicting a planet where the map of Uzbekistan
is engraved as a symbol of recognition of the sovereignty of the country by
the world community. At its foot you will see the statue of a happy mother
with a child symbolizing a young independent state. The square is flanked by
Government offices: the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, the Senate and the Ministry of Finance. The
Avenue of Glory and Memory is also situated here. |

The
Memorial complex “Shahidlar khotirasi” and the Museum of "Memory of
victims of the repression"
This
is a 16 hectare
site divided into 3 parts: Central Rotunda with the Memorial Stone;
Garden-park zone; the Boz-su river. There is an inscription in 2 languages
reading “The memory of those who have died for the liberty of the motherland
shall live forever”. |
